Ranged March Basics

How to build a ranged march that uses reach, T12 concentration, layers, and target selection instead of raw archer count.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand why T12 remains central in many ranged templates.
  • Build layers and distribute upper tiers correctly.
  • Choose mounted-heavy targets while respecting siege risk.

Why This Matters

Ranged marches are popular because they can produce enormous damage before many targets close distance. That strength also makes them easy to overestimate. A ranged march sent into the wrong defensive shape can evaporate spectacularly.

The march needs sufficient attack, supporting HP and defense, useful debuffs, layers, and a target with mounted troops it can punish.

How Evony Actually Works

A common ranged structure keeps standard layers, places roughly 50% of the remaining march into T12 ranged troops, and distributes the rest among ranged tiers above T12. The exact split should be tested against the account and target environment.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

  1. Add standard layers for every available troop type and tier.
  2. Calculate remaining capacity after layers.
  3. Place roughly half of the remaining capacity in T12 ranged.
  4. Distribute the balance evenly among ranged tiers above T12.
  5. Use Valor Blazons for attacking ranged and Compassion for defensive ranged roles.
  6. Prioritize ranged attack while keeping enough HP and defense to survive counterfire.
  7. Scout for mounted-heavy targets and avoid blindly attacking deep siege defense.

Optimization by Spending Style

Free-to-Play

A well-built accessible ranged pair can remain useful for a long time.

Low Coiner

March size and gear should expand the T12 damage mass, not inflate random layers.

Heavy Coiner

Use report data to tune the tiers above T12 and debuff package.

Common Mistakes

  • Filling the march only with the highest ranged tier.
  • Ignoring siege in the target.
  • Assuming every mounted-heavy keep is safe.
  • Using Compassion when attacking because the individual rolls look better.

Elphi's Recommendations

Ranged is a targeting march, not a universal hammer.

T12 concentration works because the whole template supports it.

Quick Reference Checklist

  • Layers complete
  • T12 allocation calculated
  • Upper tiers distributed
  • Valor preset active
  • Target mounted composition checked
  • Siege risk reviewed
