Assistant General Pairing Rules
A repeatable method for testing main skills, skill books, conditions, and replacement value before committing resources.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize common conflict patterns.
- Test pairs before development.
- Evaluate assistants by marginal gain and flexibility.
Why This Matters
Pairing rules are less mysterious when you stop treating skill wording as decoration. The game groups effects by type and condition, and overlapping effects may deactivate even when the sentences are not identical.
A new assistant should improve the march enough to justify the cost and loss of flexibility.
How Evony Actually Works
Main-skill conflicts are visible when the assistant is attached. Skill-book conflicts may appear only after a book is installed. Conditions such as attacking, marching, rallying, reinforcing, and monster hunting determine whether a bonus applies.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
- Attach the proposed assistant to the main.
- Check the assistant’s main skill for activation.
- Install books one at a time and recheck.
- Compare the exact conditions with the march role.
- Record the pair and books before changing anything.
- Do not invest premium assistant specialties until the pair is proven.
Optimization by Spending Style
Free-to-Play
Favor broad, compatible assistants obtained repeatedly.
Low Coiner
Upgrade only when the gain is meaningful across the full march.
Heavy Coiner
Test release pairs immediately, but do not dismantle proven teams for headline percentages alone.
Common Mistakes
- Reading only the percentage and not the condition.
- Assuming different wording guarantees compatibility.
- Specializing a temporary assistant.
- Forgetting skill books can create the conflict.
Elphi's Recommendations
Compatibility first.
Conditions second.
Investment last.
