Welcome to Evony: What to Focus on First

A practical starting plan that keeps a new account useful, protected, and growing without pouring resources into the wrong things.

Learning Objectives

  • Choose a purpose for the account before spending rare items.
  • Build growth systems before building decorative power.
  • Use alliance activity and event timing to make every resource do more than one job.

Why This Matters

Evony tries to make everything look urgent. A red dot appears, a package flashes, a building finishes, and suddenly it feels as if the account should be doing twenty things at once. That is how new players end up with millions of troops they cannot protect, five half-built generals, and no speedups left for the upgrade that would have actually helped.

Your first job is not to become powerful overnight. Your first job is to build an account that can keep progressing. A useful early account joins rallies, gathers safely, completes activity, helps the alliance, and reaches the next meaningful unlock without wasting rare materials along the way.

How Evony Actually Works

Power is only a summary number. It does not tell you whether the power comes from buildings, research, generals, or troops. Two accounts with the same power can be completely different in actual usefulness.

Growth compounds. Construction speed helps every future building. Research speed helps every future technology. March size helps monsters, gathering, PvP, and reinforcement. Rare general and equipment materials do not compound if they are spent on a general you later abandon.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

  1. Join the most active alliance available to you. Rally gifts, alliance science, help clicks, relic access, Viking participation, and experienced players will accelerate the account more than nearly any solo decision.
  2. Keep both builders working. Use short upgrades while you are active and long upgrades before sleep, work, or any period when you will be away.
  3. Keep the Academy researching. Prioritize construction, research, gathering, march capacity, and the troop branch you are actually developing.
  4. Complete daily activity and recurring event tasks. The small rewards look unimpressive, but consistent participation builds the stockpiles used for later breakthroughs.
  5. Keep resource boxes closed until the moment you need them. Open boxes only for a planned upgrade, research chain, healing session, or troop batch.
  6. Ask before spending Blood of Ares, runestones, civilization equipment fragments, dragon crystals, refining stones, or premium general fragments. Those are not beginner consumables simply because the game allows you to click them.

Optimization by Spending Style

Free-to-Play

Measure progress by systems unlocked, not by troop power. Join rallies, save premium materials, and let events pay you for upgrades you were already going to complete.

Low Coiner

Spend only when a purchase closes a real bottleneck, such as an event milestone, a critical general fragment threshold, or a long-term item that cannot be earned reasonably through play.

Heavy Coiner

Money accelerates mistakes just as efficiently as it accelerates good planning. Decide the account role, primary troop type, and long-term generals before opening the floodgates.

Common Mistakes

  • Training large troop batches before you can protect or heal them.
  • Opening every resource box because the total looks satisfying.
  • Spending rare items on the first gold general you receive.
  • Upgrading every building evenly instead of following keep requirements.
  • Leaving an inactive alliance because the name or power rank looks impressive.

Elphi's Recommendations

Build the account around one clear next objective.

Use events as multipliers, not as excuses to spend randomly.

When uncertain, save the rare item. You can always spend it later; you cannot unspend it.

Quick Reference Checklist

  • Active alliance joined
  • Both builders active
  • Academy research active
  • Resource boxes mostly closed
  • Primary march plan chosen
  • Rare items saved until understood
